Phyllostachys aureosulcata f.
spectabilis

It’s difficult to convey in words how beautiful this bamboo really is in person. Spectabilis
is an amazing bamboo for several reasons. The contrast between the vivid lemon yellow culms and the dark green stripe in the
sulcus is more pronounced then on any other temperate bamboo. Each spring shooting season it produces stunning multi-color
culm combinations with the new culms being tinted red and pink with exposure to the sun. This plant adds some wonderful pizzazz
to an otherwise dull and dreary late winter garden color pallette. Another feature unique to the specie are the zigzag culms that form at the base of the clump which gradually straighten
as the culm elongates adding to the ornamental value. In keeping with the aureosulcata family, this bamboo is prolific in
new culm production from season to season. Phyllostachys aureosulcata f. spectabilis grows to about 26 feet with 1 1/2"
culms under ideal conditions. Most Portland gardens can expect at least 20 to 26 feet in height when established. Spectabilis
is also a very hardy bamboo to -15F degrees and a reliable performer here in Portland. This plant is an aggressive running
bamboo that establishes quickly and has to have some form of rhizome control to keep it in check. (LIMITED STOCK)
